Pick Your Polymer

June 13, 2022

Seppic’s polymers are well known for their ability to thicken & stabilize formulations, even with a high content of oils in cream gels, in order to be easy-to-use and to create enjoyable textures for the consumers!

Since the launch of the iconic Sepigel™ 305, the range has extended significantly to offer a variety of skin feel, performances, natural content,...

Let’s go over all your options!

The form: liquid, concentrated or powder?

Seppic's Liquid Polymers

Our liquid polymers are obtained by inverse emulsion polymerization technology.

Read more about our polymerization technologies here (opens new window)

They come in a water-in-oil emulsion form, where the polymer is trapped into water droplets. During the formulation process, a spontaneous phase inversion happens when the water is added, leading to an oil-in-water emulsion where the polymer swells and can thicken and stabilize the formulation.

Inverse Polymerization

No need for neutralization, high shear nor surfactant, the polymers are easy to use and cold processable!

Classic liquid grades: Sepigel™, Simulgel™ & Sepilife™

Concentrated liquid grades, effective from low dosage: Sepiplus™

Seppic's Powder Polymers:

Some of Seppic’s polymers come in a powder form, with the following enhanced properties:

  • These are concentrated, so they are effective from a low dosage.
  • They can create translucent or even transparent gels due to their reduced (or absent) oil content

Powder Grades:

SEPINOV™: coming from the inverse emulsion polymerization technology above, with an additional drying step.

SEPIMAX™: obtained by precipitation polymerization, a technology creating high performance polymers.

Texture & Sensoriality:

Some recommendations for all your textures and skin feel:

  • Fluid & sprayable formulas with quick-break effect for a fresh and melting skin feel: SIMULGEL™ I-NS 100 & SIMULGEL™ NS.
  • Soft gels, with a good pick-up, very light and soft skin feel: SIMULGEL™ EG and SIMULGEL™ EPG.
  • Sprayable to compact textures for ultra smooth, non stringy and non sticky textures for a nude skin feel: SEPILIFE™ NUDE.
  • Excellent thickening effect to create supple and smooth gels with a silicone-like gliding and elegant touch: SEPIPLUS™ 400 and SEPIPLUS™ K
  • Supple and smooth gels that have a rich skin feel and long-lasting comfort: SEPIPLUS™ S
  • A wide range of textures, from fluid to compact with a satiny and fresh effect: SEPINOV™ EMT 10/WEO
  • Fluid to compact gels, up to jellies, with a rich skin feel and good playtime: SEPIMAX ZEN™

Technical Performances

Common properties of Seppic’s polymers:

  • Versatile performance with thickening, emulsifying/stabilizing properties
  • Large pH range
  • Sprayability
  • Compatibility with solvent, sun filters, pigments,... while being easy to formulate
  • Ready-to-use, in cold of hot process
  • Resistant to shear with no viscosity evolution over time
  • Non-microplastics...

But, like everything else in the world, there is a selection of the BESTS…

For sprayability: SIMULGEL™ I-NS 100 / NS, or SEPINOV™ EMT 10 /WEO
Looking to develop wipe formulations? Try SIMULGEL™ FL

For oil stabilizing performance (without emulsifier): SEPINOV™ EMT 10 /WEO, SIMULGEL™ EG / EPG, SIMULGEL™ I-NS 100 (also with non polar oils) / NS.

For extreme pH: Most grades are efficient at acidic pH and compatible with AHA and equivalents.
Best in class: SEPIMAX ZEN™, from pH 2 to 8.

For transparency: SEPIMAX ZEN™, or SEPINOV™ EMT 10 /WEO for translucent gels.

For suspension: SEPIMAX ZEN™.

For resistance to stressful ingredients:

  • Electrolytes: SEPIMAX ZEN™ for the maximum resistance (up to 10% NaCl), or SEPIPLUS™ S, SEPINOV™ EMT 10 /WEO (up to 2% NaCl)
  • DHA: SIMULGEL™ I-NS 100*, SEPINOV™ EMT 10* /WEO* (*Please check the patent situation) & SEPIPLUS™ S
  • Hydrogen peroxide: SEPINOV™ EMT 10 /WEO
  • Inorganic sunscreens: SEPIPLUS™ 400 & SEPINOV™ EMT 10 /WEO
